Shoreview's Whispering Pines: Three Pre-Solds Under Construction, Only Four Home Sites Remaining!

Situated near Hodgson Rd and Highway 96 in Shoreview, we thought our Whispering Pines would be a popular neighborhood when our Model Home opened last fall. It has a great location with easy access to 35E, 35W, and 694; Shoreview is one of the metro's most popular cities, with a great school district, lakes, parks, and community centers; and we built a beautiful Model Home to showcase warm, classically modern design.

We closed out 2011 with positive economic numbers across the board. 2011 saw increases in residential home construction spending, new homes sales, falling inventory, as well as better overall economic health. Each day the Research staff takes a look at recently released economic indicators, addressing what these indicators mean for REALTORS® and their clients. Today’s update highlights the stock market, construction spending and the ISM Index.

The stock market is greeting the New Year with a nice gain, and in particular the housing sector, based on the Stock Index in the Philadelphia Stock Exchange (symbol HGX). This index is comprised mostly of publicly-listed homebuilder companies, and is up about 40 percent from 3 months ago as a string of improving home sales and falling inventory figures were released over this time span.
Today’s data on construction spending (with a long lag time – the latest reading is for November of last year) indicated a fourth straight months of gain in private sector residential construction spending and six straight months of gain in private sector commercial real estate construction spending.
Separately, the manufacturing sector is showing improvement. The latest ISM index, which tracks this industry, was 53.9 in December, the highest reading in 6 months. The employment component showed an even higher reading. An index above 50 implies an expansion in the sector, so the latest data is pointing to net job gains in the manufacturing sector.
There have been decisively more economic data pointing positive than negative. The broadest reading of the economy – GDP – for the fourth quarter could be as high as 3.5 percent. The GDP data will be released in late January. Such a growth rate, if it can be sustained throughout this year, could mean 2 to 3 million net new jobs created in 2012.

Accent Wins Big At Parade of Homes Awards!!

Builders from around the state gathered in St. Paul Saturday night for the 42nd annual Builders Association of the Twin Cities Parade of Homes awards gala. This event honors the best and brightest in the industry, awarding builders and designers with the Reggie Award of Excellence for the best homes overall, and the Trillium awards for outstanding design and execution in specific areas of the home. Accent Homes was honored to receive TWO Reggie Awards in one night, one for our "Carolina Coast" model in Champlin, and one for our modern, urban designed model in Blaine. We have won our share of Reggie's in the past, but two in one night is a special accomplishment. We also received Trillium awards for Best Exterior, Best Interior, Best Bathroom, and Best Kitchen for our Blaine model. Read the press release below!

Worried about the state of the housing market? This report by Hanley Wood Housing Intelligence shows Minnesota as a bright spot among a woeful nationwide market. New home sales were up 36% this year over last, the best in the country. Unemployment, the real 'locomotive' of the housing market as the study outlines, is well below the national average at 6.8%, and in fact one of the country's ten best. With 5% being the average unemployment rate in normal market conditions, look for Minnesota to be one of the first markets to fully emerge from the slowdown.

Our next Sophie's model is well under way and should be completed by the second week of October. Utilizing the current design trend of open, functional spaces, our Sophie model features an open kitchen/eat-in layout with adjacent large living area. We like our split-entries with large foyers, entries big enough to kick off your shoes at the end of the day--we've put in 64 sq. ft. (8x8) of entry space to give you plenty of room to come and go. At 1158 finished square feet, the Sophie features two large bedrooms, two bathrooms including master bath with double-vanities, and another 1000 Sq. feet for future expansion (and two more bedrooms) in the lower level. The Sophie was a new design this year, and it's no wonder this functional, well designed home has become our best seller in Andover. We're shooting for $199,900 on the new one, and here's a few photos from a previous Sophie model below.

The Parade of homes is upon us! Over 330 homes have entered the industry's largest marketing event this year, poised to show off their best in design, construction, and materials. There is of course a bit of competition involved as well, with many of these homes entered in the prestigious Reggie Award competition, awarding overall excellence in construction and design to one builder in each price category; and the Trillium awards, awarding excellence in specific areas of the home- interior, exterior, bathrooms, etc.

We have entered 3 models in this years parade, and it has been a busy month getting them ready to shine! Our first model, in The Lakes of Blaine, is a stunning contemporary gem, a one of a kind design keeping with our trend of bringing fresh, modern ideas to more traditional neighborhoods.
